What is DC batteries?

DC batteries are often used in small electrical equipment, such as UPS, golf carts, and home energy storage. As the name suggests. DC stands for direct current, and DC battery are the batteries that provide direct current.

Almost all batteries belong to DC battery, but in many large-scale application scenarios, we need inverters to convert the DC current in the battery into AC current for the load to use. After the battery is out of power, the charger needs to convert the alternating current into direct current and store it in the battery. This is also why we need inverter and charger appliances.

Are there AC batteries?

Definitely nop, there is no AC battery in the market currently. But we can change the current of the DC batteries into AC(Alternating current) for your appliance. Then the AC machine will start work. The inside of the system need a inverter, which have function to change DC to AC.

What is DC current?

DC current flows in only one direction and is constant in time. They are produced from power sources such as batteries, power supplies and DC generators. Photovoltaic devices such as solar cells also generate direct current.

What is AC current?

Alternating current changes direction, flowing one way first, then flowing again. They are sine waves, so they vary with time. They are produced from sources such as power supplies and alternators.

In North and most of south America, AC is 120 volts and 60 hz of the frequency. That means it changes direction 60 times per second. In Europe and most Asian country, AC is 220/240 volts and 50 hz of the frequency generally.

How long does DC batteries last?

In the market, there are 3 type of DC batteries mainly. Lead acid batteries, Lithium ion batteries and Lithium iron phosphate batteries .

Lead-acid batteries suffer from a pronounced nickel-cadmium memory effect, which becomes apparent if lead-acid batteries are only partially discharge each time. Over time, they “remembered” the discharge level, and their capacity decreased accordingly. Therefore, in order to maintain the capacity of lead-acid batteries, lead-acid batteries need fully discharge on a regular basis. Even so, the actual life of the best lead-acid batteries is generally not more than two years, which is also the reason. Basically, the warranty of all lead-acid battery manufacturers will never exceed two years.

Fortunately, we can ignore the memory effect of lithium batteries.

Generally speaking,

Lithium ion batteries can charge and discharge more than 1000 times. And still be able to maintain 80% of its initial capacity.

Lithium iron phosphate batteries can charge and discharge more than 4,000 times and still maintain 80% of their initial capacity.
